Encoded Earth | A Dialogue With Nature

Rooted in the language of Morse code, my work explores how we’ve long sought connection across time, distance, and silence. I print these coded messages onto silk and cotton textiles, historically associated with both luxury and labour, using eco-printing and earth pigment to evoke the natural world and ancestral methods of mark-making.

Eco-printing, a botanical dye technique, uses leaves and flowers to imprint directly onto fabric with steam, capturing the unique memory of plant, place, and season. Combined with hand-carved lino prints using black vine earth pigments, each piece reflects a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship and the histories embedded in material.

This is slow work: quiet, deliberate, and grounded in the earth. It speaks to a time when communication was physical, patient, and profound—and invites viewers to listen closely..
